At what point in my life do I need to evaluate who I am and what I'm doing with my life?Case in point: As Jarrod and I took his aunt's cat to the vet's office in Santa Barbara last week, we end up in a 10x10 waiting room with Oprah Winfrey. Easily the most recognizable woman in the world. We had a very nice conversation, she was very polite and easy to talk with, and after 10 minutes, she left. Also, for being 54 years old, she looked amazing in person, with very little makeup on.
That leads me to wonder exactly who does that happen to? Who stands in the vet's office (or any place for that matter) with Oprah, as you handle life's mundane tasks? Granted, it was an amazing event, and one I won't forget any time soon, but it was very surreal.
Our conversation turned to her newest show, Oprah's Big Give, which aired last night on ABC. She asked if we were going to watch, and as she was leaving she reminded us to "Give Big!" Not that we needed any encouragement, but when Oprah, with her multi-million dollar companies, talks to you about money, you want to listen.
As we watched her show last night, it was still very hard to comprehend that we spent time with her last week. She lives in Montecito, which is just a few minutes outside of Santa Barbara, so it's very possible that we could have run into her at any moment, but it's not one of those things you ever think would happen.
Oprah's Big Give was an emotional roller coaster last night. It was very inspiring to watch, and I can't wait to see how many lives this show can touch. My only advise to those watching: make sure you have Kleenex available. The widowed mother of two, the wounded Iraq War solider, the homeless mother - all amazing stories, each deserving of the help the show provided.
Oprah, keep up the great work. We'll be watching. Also, if you ever run into the gays from the vet's office again, invite us over for dinner. We promise not to gush over you...too much.
